Critics Have Raved:

Traumatized is damn worth paying attention to, and I hands-down recommend it. Nicholas Grabowsky, Author of, Red Wet Dirt

Brown is very descriptive and atmospheric. He utilizes very cool metaphorical sentence structures, and he has a knack for keeping you on the very edge, throughout his stories [which progressively get better, in my opinion] If you enjoy short stories, then this collection is definitely recommended! Horror Reviews

This is an excellent short story collection that I recommend to horror fans. The Monster Librarian

In the Prologue, Brown cites both Edgar Allen Poe and Friedrich Nietzsche, and, in the pages of Traumatized, he takes his rightful place as their literary nextof-kin. Anyone who is not currently a fan of horror fiction will surely be converted once they delve into the compelling world that Brown has created. Highly recommended. Apex Reviews

It's always hard enough to find an author you like, but I can assure you Brown's work will promptly impress you. Horrorsociety.com

Darh HighwayDark Highway

Dead End!

Fueled by high hopes and the words of motivational speaker Skip Forney, traveling salesman Tom Turley takes a road trip into Wyoming to close a deal that will salvage his self respect and save his cheesy, low-dog job–and winds up taking a wrong turn into hell!

After a bloody encounter with serial-killer swingers, Tom wakes up from a dirt nap with a continually decomposing body, the entrepreneurial spirit, a craving for human flesh–and a taste for revenge. But what’s a zombie to do with all eternity on his side?

Re-inventing himself as a merger maniac with fangs, Tom becomes the King of Wall Street and proves that even death can’t stop a man from staking his claim (through the hearts of his clients) or greasing the wheels of the corporate machine (with blood). Dark Highway is a lurid, humorous tale of zombie perseverance, hostile takeovers and world conquest, and invites you to take a horrifying, B-movie ride into the underbelly of one man’s demonized soul.

“This novelette is funny and well written. Dan Thomas writes so well that he can make the reader identify even with a flesh-eating zombie…” –NovelSpot
“A grand read. It is gruesome, sexy, exciting and is indeed a guilty pleasure.” –Midwest Book Review

Here’s what reviewers are saying about the book:

“...The tales in Experiments at 3 Billion A.M. are masterpieces of subtlety and suggestion, electric with emotional power, brimming with inventiveness, enigmatic, inconclusive and delicately drawn, touching, without being sentimental, evocative and often deeply unsettling and shocking. This then is that rare achievement, great writing and great story telling.”
- The Future Fire: Social Political & Speculative Cyber-Fiction

“Zelenyj is an incredibly talented writer who works the full spectrum of speculative fiction with ease and the ability to blur out any genre lines you may care to draw. Science fiction, fantasy, horror, slipstream and relentless re-combination, Zelenyj does it all with a narrative clarity that makes for fast, enjoyable reading.”
- The Agony Column

“This is some of the best slipstream fiction I have read for a while...[Zelenyj] mixes his genres with the hand of an expert producing some really emotive pieces, sometimes melancholy, sometimes hopeful but always interesting.”

Synopsis

Desperate, his lover turns to Kim Bennett, author Norm Applegate’s quintessential heroine whose passion for S&M led to celebrity status as a hell-and-back murder mystery sleuth who’s been there, done that, and then some. This time, Kim finds herself caught between a secret vampire society’s attempts to locate The Black Testament (a sacred document written by Jack the Ripper), the modern-day vampire hunters bent on their destruction, and a white knuckled journey of self-discovery that catapults her into the bowels of hell and the arms of the ultimate vampire.......courtesy of The Haven, New York’s ultimate BLOOD BAR.

About the Author

Norman Applegate is an author and consultant, with a growing body of work to his credit. Born in Glasgow Scotland, growing up in Toronto Canada and now residing in Florida with his wife Cheryl, Norm Applegate works and travels for an international consulting company, then occasionally scares the “heck” out of his family with his thoughts and writings.

His early years in Toronto were filled with aspirations of the late 60’s hippie music scene, and as a drummer in numerous bands led to a short lived career playing the bars and clubs in the Toronto area. The band Photograph, signed to a recording studio, made some noise on the coast to coast CBC radio show, the Entertainers, and after the legal issues strangled them into submission, they went their separate ways. The life of drugs, sex and rock and roll were over, sad but true.

His first novel, “Into the Basement,” a raw dark thriller introduced us to his unlikely heroine Kim Bennett and is scheduled for a movie release in 2009 with Triad Studios. His follow up novel, “Into the Spell,” continued with Kim Bennett and the dark world of hypnosis, the paranormal and murder. Early 2008, Norm released a short story called “Jumpers,” with a Twilight Zone feel to it in the horror anthology “From the Shadows.”

Currently Mr. Applegate is a resident of Sarasota Florida, where he is working as a principle for the movie “Into the Basement,” a new horror thriller, and possible a sequel to Blood Bar.

The Oneness of Religion

Synopsis

New novel offers intriguing reincarnation story about how Taoism, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity were created by the same being.

KAPOLEI, Hawaii - In a science fiction thriller that exposes the unity in all religions, author Joseph DeMarco describes the plight of a homeless man named Felix King, who believes himself to be the reincarnation of the founder of all major world religions. The author also details his strange inspiration for the story through a pseudonym named Joe Kaye in Blind Savior, False Prophet (now available through AuthorHouse).

Separated into two stories, "Chasing the Ghost" and "Blind Savior," DeMarco's novel paints a not-too-distant future, in which all religions are one and the evolution of spirituality is occurring right under our noses. The first story details a drugged-out ex-student of Joe Kaye's (Siann), who is searching for Kaye's lost novel. Through notes scribed in a faded green notebook she stole from him many years ago, Siann learns of a manuscript that was supposedly buried on a small Caribbean Island. Siann eventually finds the lost manuscript (which is presented as the second story: "Blind Savior") about a Dharma Bum named Felix King. Felix's belief about his past lives spurs from a series of dreams, in which he is Lao Tzu, the famous Chinese philosopher and author of the Tao, Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) and Mohammed, the last prophet of Islam.

The main undercurrent that unfolds in both stories is the next evolution of spirituality, which, according to both the fictitious author Joe Kaye and the real author Joseph DeMarco, began with the Beatles and the hippy movement in the 1960's and will not finish for close to two thousand years.

About the author

Joseph DeMarco was born in New York City; he lived most of his life in Buffalo, NY. He now teaches seventh grade on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. He is the author of the novels Plague of the Invigilare, The 4 Hundred and 20 Assassins of Emir Abdullah-Harazins, and At Play in the Killing Fields.

Splattered Beauty

Synopsis

Splattered Beauty is the story of Alyssa Peyton, a minor celebrity in the B-film industry. With a career spanning more than a decade, she has accumulated over two-dozen films in the horror genre, receiving cult status in the process. It appears, though, that days of happiness and success have long forgotten her. Her cherished producer/director husband, Peter, has left her for a younger, more attractive actress. Now, Alyssa finds herself for the first time without work. In the two years it has been since setting foot on a film set, Alyssa has fallen into a maddening depression. Her substance and alcohol abuse accelerates and she begins to alienate those closest to her, including Joyce, her agent and longtime friend. That is when she meets Taryn, a teenage fan who is smitten with her immediately. The two form a bond and within days, Taryn finds herself living under the same roof as her favorite cult celebrity.

Soon, the lead role in a film Alyssa would be perfect for is offered. It appears as though things are beginning to fall into place for the first time in so very long. But when Alyssa learns that this role has been awarded to Jessica, Peter’s new wife, she is pulled deeper and deeper into an insufferable psychosis and attempts suicide. When that fails too, she realizes what must be done. With the aid of Taryn, Alyssa begins a string of brutal and sadistic murders. Manipulating Taryn into doing her every bidding, Alyssa pulls the impressionable youth into her own twisted game of murder and deception and it appears there is no escape for either of them.

His follow-up to Crystal Bay, Brandon Ford, a lover of all things horror, has written Splattered Beauty as a sort of love note to his favorite scream queens. The novel contains a foreword praising genre favorites Linnea Quigley, Debbie Rochon, Tiffany Shepis, and more. Available now in paperback and Amazon Kindle from Arctic Wolf Publishing.

Excerpt

Alyssa watched as he began to inch toward her, his hands out in front of him as he tried to calm her, his voice soft and dripping with nurture.

“I heard what happened to you, Alyssa,” he said. “I’m really very sorry. But there are people that can help you. People who’ll understand. Please, you’ve got to trust me.”

Watching as he took continual glances at her wrists, she relived the moment she slid the razor across them, seeing the moment with crystal clarity.

He thought he was to blame for what she’d done. She knew. She could tell by the manner in which he spoke. She could tell by the words he chose. He still believed he was her everything.

Moisture drew her attention and she looked down to see the blood soak through the fine cloth.

“You’re hurt...” Peter mumbled, gently taking her left hand in his own, watching as the blood trickled. Still clenching the knife, she tightened her grip on the handle, staring into the eyes of the man she’d once loved so dearly. Her contempt overcame her and she gnashed her teeth. Gripping his hand, she slid the blade across his wrist and watched as the blood began to flow. He dropped to his knees in pain.

“Now you’re hurt, too,” she said, towering over him.

Jessica shrieked, placing both hands over her mouth. She ran to his aid, pulling his arm toward her, studying the deep gash. “Oh, my God,” she wailed, watching the fountain of blood pour from his veins.

“Jessie, call the police,” he begged her, his voice shaking. He knew he’d lose consciousness at any moment.

Jessica turned and rushed toward the door, nearly tripping over her own heels, as she gasped in a panic.

“Stop her!” Alyssa commanded Taryn, who, still in shock, almost didn’t hear her.

A single thought so far away, Taryn leapt forward, tackling Jessica onto the hard marble as she released a masculine grunt. Jessica shrieked again, but her cries silenced the moment the back of her head met the cold, hard ground. In an instant, her neck snapped and her skull split like an egg, blood spilling from the open wound.

With the minimal amount of strength he could muster, Peter yelped her name one last time as he began to crawl towards her. “Oh, Jessie... Oh, please, God, no...” he continued, pulling himself forward on his chest.
